WOOL SALES IN LONDON
Confident Tone At Opening (N.ZP.A.~Ranter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 8. The London wool broken and the London agency of the New Zealand Wool Commission in a joint report state that when the London February wool sales opened today, with an offering of 14,600 bales, a confident tone was quickly apparent and competition was stronger and more general than had been the case in the recent series. Most of the New Zealand greasy crossbreeds were from the North Island—an offering mainly of good average style and including a good proportion of hoggets. Under lively competition from the home trade with good support from the Continent, fine crossbreds were 2*4 per cent, dearer and medium crossbreds par to 2*4 per cent dearer.
The scoured selection included several good style Merino clips from the South Island which met with good competition and made prices fully
comparable with those ruling in January. Scoured Crossbreds The offering of scoured crossbreds, consisting mainly of offsorts, met with good competition and sold well, prices mostly moving in sellers’ favour.
In a small offering of slipes those of combing length advanced fully 2*4 per cent., but clothing types were only occasionally dearer. New Zealand wools catalogued amounted to 10.400 bales, of which 6600 were greasy, 2000 scoured and 1800 slipes.
