The Congo
Sir, —Just how Christian are we? We allow the legitimate Prime Minister of the Congo to be imprisoned and battered by political gangsters who seized power with the tacit agreement of the United Nations. Mr Lumumba asked the United Nations to sort out the mess left by the Belgians and they succeeded in making a bigger hash of it. They have not even been able to protect Mr Lumumba. Mr Lumumba suffered imprisonment by the Belgians. Now he gets the same from a few of his own race. Some Congolese would betray their country to the Belgians for a few pieces of silver. Our skins are white. Was the Good Samaritan moral not meant for black Lumumba? Or have the Chrisians lost their voices?— Yours, etc., g. A. McMillan. January 23, 1961.
