Model Soldiers

Sir, —The article on model soldier-making by a storekeeper on the Rangitata makes interesting reading. But if the age of the gentleman (22) is correct, then he is a very young enthusiast. The British Model Society has

been in existence for many years. One of its members I know has a model of a Life Guard made by Britains Ltd., London, in 1860. This firm, like many others, is wellknown to members throughout the world, and there are many of them. It is possible to buy first-class models from a number of firms at 21s each. To come nearer home, here in Christchurch is an exofficer enthusiast who makes such models, and who has a collection running into many hundreds. He is also a member of the British Model Soldier Society, and was in no small way responsible for the very fine display of old uniforms during the centenary celebrations of the Canterbury Regiment. Yours, MEREBIMUR. Jan. 16, 1961.
