Car Capsizes At Nelson
| (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, January 2. The driver of a racing car competing at the Nelson Car Club’s beach race at Tahuna was fatally hurt when the car overturned during the main race on Saturday afternoon. He was Brian Claude Mabey, aged 28, of Nelson, married, with one child. Mabey was competing in the 12-lap Nelson provincial championship, and was in third position when his car ploughed into the cut-up western bend coming into the home straight and capsized. Mabey died in the ambulance taking him to Nelson Hospital. After a delay while the police checked the course the meeting was continued. Mabey was driving a homebuilt B.C.M. Special, powered by a Vauxhall Velox motor.
