Runaway Victory At Stratford (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Jan. 2. Running right away early in the straight, the little-favoured Hawera galloper. King’s Mate, had an easy win in the Malone Memorial Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the Stratford Racing Club’s summer meeting -at Stratford today. -The race was run at a fast clip, and King's Mate covered the' 10 furlongs in the smart time of 2min 42sec. He beat the second horse. Aequitas, by six lengths, with a long neck to Anacaprl. Hitting the front outside the furlong, the Wanganui galloper. Drum Roll, finished strongly to win the second leg. the Ngaere Handicap. The second horse, Stitch, also came home well, but had no chance with the winner. TTie double paid £49 16s for £l. The on-course double. Baladorand Early Light, paid £l2 10a for £l. The weather was beautifully fine and very hot. A good crowd attended. The track was hard and fast.
