PRINCESS MOBBED
Excited Irish Crowd (N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) LONDON. January 1. Princess Margaret was pinned against her car by an excited Irish crowd on her way te church at Birr, County Offaly today. As the pushing screaming crowd of more than 300 pushed around her in unchecked enthusiasm, a woman near the front shouted: “Look, the Princess is frightened!” The pale and shaken Princess was half-pulled and half-pushed into the church with her husband. Mr Antony Armstrong-Jones, reported the “Daily Sketch.” As she approached the door, the rector, the Rev. Thomas Bourne, ran out to take her arm and help her inside. Later he said: “She was anxious but quickly regained her composure.”
In the crush a six-year-old girl was almost pushed under the Royal car and a woman fainted. Police said the crowd was orderly until an Irish photo-
grapher tried to push his camera into the Royal car. As he did so he let out a whoop. This sent the crowd wild. There was no harm in it. It was just Irish enthusiasm.
