NO WARRANTS OF FITNESS
Tickets Issued In Kaikoura
Twenty-four motorists', many of whom said that the holiday rush prevented them from getting into the Christchurch City Council vehicle testing station, have been issued with tickets for having no warrants of fitness in Kaikoura.
Most of the motorists were from Christchurch. Thirty-one notices have been pasted on the windscreens of cars without warrant of fitness stickers since Boxing Day; but so far only 24 owners have reported to the Transport Department. “We have only scratched the surface," said the Transport Department's traffic officer <Mr D W. Simpson). “We feel that probably 30 per cent, of the cars now in Kaikoura have not got warrants. The most common excuse has been the difficulty of having a car tested In Christchurch during the pre-Christinas rush.” Faults noticeable with holiday traffic was the excessive speed of vehicles towing trailers and caravans. On the narrow hilly stretch of road through the Hundalee Hills fsilure to keep to the left was a common fault with many drivers, said Mr Simpson.
