SOD-SEEDING PIONEER.—The design of the drill coulter on the right, with its replaceable beak and leading edge put Mr J. E. Holland, of Avoca Valley, among the first successfully to introduce seed into the sod. The coulter tip gave the right degree of penetration, and the flanged wings scraped the sides of the opened ground to provide a miniature tilth for the seed. Mr Holland designed the basic coulter nearly 20 years ago.
