CLOTHES THAT SPARKLE
Metallic Threads Popular
AH that glitters is not gold, but most of that which glitters in present-day clothes is lurex. In London this week many examples of the use of this metallic thread, which is rendered untarnishable and washable by sandwiching it between two very fine sheets of acetate butyrate film, were shown in new guises, writes a London correspondent. In addition to brilliant cloth-of-gold lamea which are not everyone’s choice, there are discreet tone-on-tone materials which have an attractive shimmer. Used mostly for matching jackets and skirts the lurex can be blended with Jersey. For evening weat, particularly theatre coats, great use has been made of silver and gold damask patterned brocade which can only be described as "fabulous.”
For glamorous evening separates, gold lurex has been used for a draped top, knee-length pants and matching- overskirt trimmed with gold kid. A silver lurex and blue jersey two-piece also has front panels of silver kid. For sunny days and apres-ski wear a “cat suit’ 'in black lurex elasticised lame, with tight fitting pants and brief top is strictly for the young and slim. Chunky knits also, have the lurex treatment but in such a discreet manner as to be almost imperceptible.
