GOLDEN WEDDING
Mr And Mrs M. J. Denvir Mr and Mrs M. J. Denvir, of Clyde road, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this afternoon. Mr Denvir celebrated his seventy-first birthday on Christmas Day. and their eldest daughter, Isabelle; had her silver wedding anniversary on Boxing Day. Mr and Mrs Denvir were both born in Scotland. They were married in the Church of St Aloysius (Garnet Hill, Glasgow), on December 31, 1910. by the Rev. Father Onsworth. When Mr Denvir’s father died, his aunt, who was living in New Zealand, wrote and asked him to come here. So in 1925, the Denvir family emigrated with their four children, Isabelle (who had her fourteenth birthday the day before the ship berthed at Wellington), John, who was 12. Sarah (seven), and Mary (three months). Since they have been in New Zealand. Mr and Mrs Denvir have lived in Christchurch, and their other three children (Eric. Patricia, and Joan) were born here. There are 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr Denvir joined the King's Own Scottish Borderers as a regular soldier when he was 16 He left the army when he was married, and joined up again at the outbreak of World War L when he served in France in .the Scottish Rifles Since he settled in New Zealand, he worked as a labourer, until illness forced his retirement several years ago.
