Talks On Space Continue

PALM BEACH (Florida), December 27. The President-elect, Mr John Kennedy, conferred at his home in Palm Beach until late last night with his leading aides on America’s future space programme and ambassadorial allowances. Mr Kennedy’s discussions with the Vice President-elect, Mr Lyndon Johnson, the Secretary of the Treasury-designate. Mr C. Douglas Dillon, and others was originally expected to end yesterday afternoon. The discussions .will be continued this morning, and a public statement' on the results is expected this afternoon.

Mr Kennedy’s press secretary. Mr Pierre Salinger, said the talks covered “strengthening the American space programme” and "strengthening State Department representation abroad.”

According to United Press International “representation” is a term used to denote funds allowed an ambassador for official entertaining. Mr Kennedy is known to favour increasing ambassadorial expense allowances to reduce the need to name wealthy men for the larger embassies.

One of the men attending last nights discussions was a Democrat Representative, Mr John Rooney, who opposes providing States ambassadors with additional expenses. Mr Rooney has, m the past, called entertainment expenses a “booze allowance. *
