SMALL SLOOP OVERDUE

Ships And Aircraft Alerted A 28ft sloop, the Galatea, which left Lyttelton at 6 a.m on Saturday for Picton, had been overdue since Monday afternoon, said the Lyttelton police last evening. There was no immediate anxiety, but ships and aircraft had been asked to watch for the sloop. The Galatea has an eight horse-power engine, and is manned by three experienced yachtsmen Messrs B. D. Watkins, of 60 McLean street, Christchurch, D. L. Turner, of 23 Rutherford street. Christchurch, and J. M. Philips, of 18 Forbes street. Christchurch. Mr Philips is captain. The sloop may have been delayed by strong north-east winds. Comet Stuck.—A 8.0.A.C. Comet stuck in soft sand while preparing for take-off at Cairo airport. Tractors pulled the plane back on to the runway and it took off 70 minutes later. Noone was hurt.—(Cairo, December 27.)
