COMMUNITY CENTRE FOR LINCOLN
Completion Next Year The new community centre which is being built at Lincoln is expected to be ready for use before next winter. The front of the building has been finished in stone, all interior partitions have been completed, and the flooring will be laid early in January. Although money is still coming in more funds are needed. On March 4 next year it is planned to hold a grand country fair in the grounds of Lincoln College, and at present potatoes and beans are being grown on land lent for the purpose, with the intention of adding to funds. The renovation of the old hall, which will be used as a supper room for large functions and as a hall for small functions, has been completed, apart from painting, which will be started almost immediately. The stage of the centre is being constructed on a new principle. It is built of steel and wood, being supported at the front and rear only by concrete piles. This design means that the space under the stage is unobstructed by supports. In addition to Saturday, work is now done on one evening a week. Temporary lighting has been installed to make this possible.
So far moi;e than 5000 manhours of voluntary labour have gone into the construction of the centre, and more than £5OOO has been spent on materials.
