Trapped In Deep Cistern (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) HOLLY SPRINGS (Mississippi), December 14. Rescue workers today won a night-long battle in freezing weather to save a negro from a cistern cave-in. The man, Mr Harry Miller, was kept alive during the rescue operation by oxygen fed to him through a rubber tube. Workers, after a long night of scrambling in treacherous sand got a rope around Miller today and pulled him to safety. The 44-year-old tenant farmer had spent nearly 24 hours at the bottom of a 26-foot deep cistern, trapped in wet red sand up to baa chin.
