RACING Quite Able Does Sound Cup Trial

Quite Able, a fit Dunedin Cup candidate, ran nine furlongs in solid style wide out on the course proper at Riccarton yesterday. He ran the distance in 2min 0 4-ssec, which was creditable after a slow first furlong.

Quite Able was ridden by C. T. Wilson, and was joined for the last six furlongs by his stablemates, Corduroy (A. H. East wood) and Coral Ring (R. B. Taggart). They ran that distance in Inun 18 2-ssec and the last half mile in 51sec.

! Quite Able will qualify for entry in the Wellington Cup if he wins at Wingatui. I He will have solid Canterbury backing in the Dunedin Cup, in I which he has 7-9. Skylight Fit Skylight 'Miss M. Jennings) ran the fastest six-furlong trial of the morning. The veteran Callander gelding outpaced Double Impress (W. Beck) and recorded Imin 15 4-ssec. The pace was solid from the start They ran the first two furlongs in. 25sec and the first three furlongs in 137 3-ssec 1 Halla (R. W. Gould) sprinted seven furlongs in Imin 30 4-ssec after running the first four in 52 2-ssec. Studio (W. Beck) ran seven furlongs in Imin 36 l-ssec. He did not appear to act well on the turns at Hororata, where he was an unplaced favourite. His holiday programme will start with distance hack races at Wingatui. Portent (A. J. Mein) quickly worked up to a solid pace from the seven furlongs and sustained it to the end. They recorded Imin 29 2-ssec, and 51sec for the last half mile. Cup Candidate Quick Time (W. Donovan), which is making steady progress in his Dunedin Cup preparation, ran a mile in Imin 47 l-ssec, the last seven furlongs in Imin 32 2-ssec, and the last half mile in 52 2-ssec. Saltash (N. Cowles) ran easily from the mile to the six furlongs where he joined his stablemate Gay Filou (G. W. Mein). From there they ran home in Imin 17 2-ssec, the last half mile taking 51sec. McCool (C. McDonald) recorded Imin 7 4-ssec for five furlongs and 54sec for the last half mile. He was under restraint from the start. Stradbroke (C. T. Wilson) sprinted six furlongs in Imin 21sec, quickening to run the final three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. Abdicate (E. B. Skelton) was going keenly a neck ahead of Araphoe (Miss J. Allen) finishing half a mile in 49 4-ssec. Abdicate benefited from her race at Hororata. Ruffle (K. Reggett) and Roa (G. W. Mein) sprinted half a mile in 49 3-ssec, the final three furlongs in 37sec. Lord Nikita (D. N. Hadfield) was under a good hold a length i clear of Rustic (L. J. Ellis) and The Native (A. J. Stokes) finish-

ing five furlongs in Imin ssec. They started briskly, with the opening two furlongs in 24 4-ssec, but they were not hurried in the straight. Rayspar (D. N. Hadfield) sprinted six furlongs keenly in Imin 16 l-ssec, the last three in 38sec. He has been racing consistently and should pay expenses on an Otago holiday campaign. Two Lengths Clear Gabelle (D. N. Hadfield) outran Prospero (G. W. Mein) with ease over half a mile. She finished two lengths clear and recorded 49 4-ssec. Keep Time (W. Beck) sped over three furlongs along the back in 35 2-ssec. Vitamise (G. W. Mein) was hard held finishing five furlongs a length clear of his stablemate Toa (N. Eastwood). Vitamise recorded Imin 6 2-ssec. Cadiz (M. Wildermoth) ran six furlongs the reverse way in Imin 19 2-ssec, the last three in 37 l-ssec. Braganza (A. J. Stokes) followed his stablemate a moment later over the same ground and took Imin 21 2-ssec. Puff (W. Hanlin) and Timna (M. Wildermoth) were abreast finishing three furlongs in 36. It was a smart sprint. Keep Quiet (Miss F. Kerr) was one of few to sprint on the trial grass. He ran three furlongs in 36.
