TALKS IN TWO RHODESIAS
Attempts To Resolve Impasse
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 14.
Britain’s Colonial and Commonwealth Relations Secretaries, Mr laian Macleod and Mr Duncan Sandys, figured in new moves in London today to resolve an impasse over postponed constitutional talks on the two Rhodesias. They discussed with the Prime Ministers and governors of the states the problems arising from the African nationalist boycott of the current London conference on the future of the Federation of Northern and Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland. . The British Government postponed talks on the constitutions of Northern and of Southern Rhodesia which had been planned to start yesterday. This unexpected postponement has worried the African nationalist “big three”—Dr. Hastings Banda of Nyasaland, Mr Kenneth Kaunda of Northern Rhodesia and Mr Joshua Nkomo of Southern Rhodesia.
Shortly after the governors’ talks with Mr Macleod, Mr Kaunda met the Colonial Secretary for talks.
