SAGA OF A SEAL
Unwanted Visitor
"The Press” Special Service NAPIER, Dec. 15.
How do you evict a persistent seal from your property? Two Te Anga women wrestled with this problem when a seal came ashore and showed no inclination to leave.
According to Mrs M. E. Hutchinson, she telephoned a number of Government departments and organisations without much success.
The Marine Department: Sorry, but you’ll have to shift the seal yourself. Transport Department: Why us? Sorry, all our officers are at court. (Mrs Hutchinson felt the seal was a menace when it went on to the road).
Hastings Police: Sorry, all our men are in court. Automobile Association: Sorry, our man is ill. S.P.C.A.: We examined the seal when it was in Napier. As it is perfectly healthy it is no concern of ours. Finally the Clive policeman said he would try to get something done. But the seal did not wait for the law. He entered the lagoon and was last seen heading for the open sea.
