N.Z. CADETS AT DUNTROON
Six Graduates To Be Lieutenants
Six New Zealand cadets have graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon. They were commissioned as lieutenants in the New Zealand Army yesterday. • For the first time a serving sailor, Vice-Admiral Sir Roy Dowling, took the salute at the graduation parade, and presented 43 Australian and New Zealand cadets with their diplomas and prizes. Admiral Dowling is the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff committee. The New Zealand cadets who graduated at the ceremony are G. T. Bowes (Foxton), G. D. Birch (Papakura), P. D. R. Browne (Tauranga), D. W. S. Moloney (Christchurch), T. D. McFarlane (Rotorua) and J. A- Robinson (Stratford). Lieutenant Bowes, who was first among the New Zealand cadets, was educated at Greymouth Technical High School. He was awarded the prize for second place in tactics and the Oswald Watt essay prize for the best essay on military aviation. He will remain in Australia for a post-graduate course at the School of Armour. Lieutenant Birch will remain in Australia attached to the School of Artillery. Lieutenant McFarlane will undertake a postgraduate course at the School of Signals in Australia. Lieutenant Moloney was educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School. He is the son of Mr and Mrs J. K. Moloney, of St. Albans. At the Royal Military College he represented the college at Rugby and was vice-captain of the team which won the Australian Commonwealth Territory competition this year. He was awarded a Rugby blue and a half-blue for basketball.
