DAVIS CUP CHALLENGE
Team Practises In Spikes (N.Z. Press Association —Copvrtght) SYDNEY, December 15. Sydney is having its coldest summer since last century, and Australia’s Davis Cup players are getting plenty of practice in spikes for the challenge round against Italy, to begin at White City, Sydney. on December 26. The team captain, Harry Hopman, said there had been a lot of rain and the team was fitting in with the weather. “We have had two practice sessions in spikes at White City this week, and we will use them again today,” he said. A wet court during the challenge roupd would suit the Italians, who liked to play on slow surfaces, Hopman said.
Spikes were worn at Kooyong, Melbourne, a fortnight ago when the Italians, N. Pietrangeli and O. Sirola, beat Australia's top doubles pair, N. Fraser and R. Emerson, in the final of the Victorian championships.
