52 ARMY CADETS GRADUATE
General Thornton On Service Demands (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, December 15. “You will not find the Army an easy life. You will not make your fortune, and you will be expected to put the interests of the Army before your own convenience, but there is also a fine credit side to Army life,” said the Chief of the General Staff (Major-General L. W. Thornton), addressing cadets of the Regular Force Cadet School, Waiouru, at their graduation ceremony today. Fifty-two cadets graduated and will join units of the Regular Army. “On the credit side,” MajorGeneral Thornton told cadets, “is a lifetime of worth-while service to your country and a chance of leadership, to which I hope you will all aspire.” Congratulating the cadets on what he described as one of the best parades he had seen, General Thornton said: “There an- those who say that in the coming age of push-button war, parades and parade-ground discipline are no longer required. I find 1 cannot agree with this, because I feel that no matter what weapons there may be, as long as the men have to face discomfort and danger together, so long will discipline be needed.”
