DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

Premium For Fine Counts

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. Dec. 15.

The market for good-style flue wools showed an encouraging turn at the second wool sale of the 1960-61 season today. For the first time for two years growers of the best lines received distinct premiums over the prices paid for ordinary lots. This trend Came as a surprise to both buyers and brokers. The top price for the sale came in the late morning when six bales of super quarterbred from Clyde brought the exceptional price of 64}d per lb. This was the highest price at Dunedin since last December.

In the afternoon, at a stage when it appeared that there might be an easing, the bidding for fine wools was still keen and two successive lots totalling 13 bales of Merino were sold at 61Jd per lb. It was in the quality fine wools that the advances were most noticeable, but good halfbred and quarterbted wools were slightly dearer than those at Christchurch ealier this month. Fine lines, which in October earned 48d to 49d, were -today selling for as much as 57d, and there were many sales at over 50d. The fine wools generally opened up well and in better condition than those at the last December sale but among the quality hogget fleeces there appeared to be evidence that they were not well skirted. Official Report

The official report says a total of 33,212 bales was offered to a full representative bench of buyers. Some attactive Merino halfbred clips from Otago Central were keenly competed for and realised very satisfactory prices. Good style Merino and fine halfbreds were slightly dearer than at the recent Christchurch sale, while ordinary style fine wools showed little change. Fine crossbreds were very firm while medium and strong crossbreds were about on a par with the Invercargill sale last week.

The main competition came from the Continent. Bradford was mainly operating on medium quality good length wools. America took a share of the coarser wools and the local mills were keen buyers for the finer qualities in, super combing wools. The New Zealand Wool Commission freely supported average to inferior style Merinos and fine hajfbreds. Range of Prices The official range of prices Is as

Sunburn Precautions.— " Suburn can be painful and serious, and children should always wear sun-hats,” says the Acting District Officer of Health, Dr. F. A. de Hamel, in a pre-holiday statement. “If you go sunbathing, build up your suntan slowly by repeated small doses. Use a sunburn preventive.”
