ANGLICAN SOCIAL SERVICES
669 New Cases Last Year
Anglican social service workers in Christchurch dealt with 669 new cases last year, the annual meeting of the Social Service Council was told recently. This was contained in the report of the councils warden (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) which was presented to the meeting by the Rev. W. D. Harding. The report said that the service had now grown to be the largest operated by a voluntary organisation in New Zealand. Students were sent from the School of Social Science at the Victoria University of Wellington for practical training in Anglican social services in Christchurch.
The counselling and case work included dealing with marital troubles, desertions, unmanageable children, police court mission, discharged prisoners’ aid, visits to the sick and lonely aged and relief in cases of genuine distress.
