U.K. BUTTER MARKET

Improved Demand <N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, December 12. The demand for all butters, including New Zealand and Australian, has improved recently with the . approach of the Christmas trade, but apart from lower-grade Continental supplies, which have risen in price by 20s to 30s per cwt during the last two or three weeks, the price level generally remains unchanged. Danish is selling at 333 s per cwt)- landed. New Zealand 280 s, and Australian 2755. Unless the unexpected happens no variation is anticipated until after Christinas, when it is thought the market might become a “bit weak.”

At present consumption is running around 8000 tons weekly, but during the first quarter next year supplies are expected to be in the vicinity of 9000 tons weekly. Unless consumption improves stocks should begin to build up towards the end of January, ‘influencing prices.
