COURT SEQUEL TO COLLISION
Intoxicated Driver Fined £4O (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 11. A car driven by William John Dowrick. aged 40. who was under the influence of drink, collided with another car on Friday night, Mr A. A. Coates. S.M.. was told by the police prosecutor (Mr J. A. McCarthy) in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland on Saturday. Dowrick pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of liquor. He appealed to the Magistrate for a fine, saying he had a young baby and a nervous wife, "and Christmas is coming up.” The Magistrate reminded Dowrick that he got “seven days last time” He said he took into account that that was 13 years ago and was giving him a chance, but was “stretching mercy fairly far in doing so.” Dowrick was fined £4O and was disqualified from driving for three years. Any licence issued then is to be endorsed.
