Noise
Sir, —Not only is factory noise not taken seriously but sufferers complaining about it are not. The latest overseas information tells that a girl mathematician, exposed to high-frequency sound waves was temporarily so shaken of mind that she could not do the simplest arithmetic problems. A research chemist working continuously with ultra-sound lost his sense of balance and for days could not ride his bicycle. It took a reporter all his will to prevent falling three storeys to the concrete. He was “shaken like a rat.” Prodigious overseas investigations disclose effects of sound not all heard, not e”en loud, while science for preservation of ear and brain provides increasingly necessary protection at and from the source.—Yours, etc., EQUALITY.
