SLAZENGER SHIELD COMPETITION

Canterbury Wins Zone Final Showing a clear superiority, the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's junior boys’ team yesterday comfortably beat Marlborough by eight matches to two in the zone final among Canterbury. West Coast, Nelson, and Marlborough for the Slazenger shield, played at Blenheim yesterday. , On Saturday, Canterbruy beat West Coast by 10 matches to 0 and Marlborough beat Nelson by 10 matches to 0. In the losers' match yesterday, Nelson beat West Coast by 9 games to 1. With its win in the final of the zone Canterbury 'will now enter the semi-finals of the Slazenger shield, to be played at Wanganui in January. Results in final were:— Singles.—B. Judge beat G. Eaton, 6- 6-4; D. Scotland beat /R. Heard, 7- 6-4; L. Watkin beat B. Hood 6-2’ 6-2; G. Hastie beat M. Eaton, 0-6 6-3, 6-1; B. Judge beat R. Heard. 6-3 6-3; D. Scotland lost to G Eaton, 4-6, 6-3. 4-6; L. Watkins beat M. Eaton, 7-5, 6-3; G. Hastie lost to B. Hood, 5-7, 6-4, 4-6 v Doubles.—B. Judge and D. Scotland beat R. Heard and G. Eaton, 5- 9-7, 6-4; L. Watkin and G. Hastie beat M. Eaton and B. Hood, 6- 6-0.
