150 At Garden Party A garden party with a Christmas atmosphere was held in Christchurch on Saturday by members of the Victoria League, at “Chingford,” the home of the president (Mrs R. B. Neill). More than 150 guests enjoyed afternoon tea in the spacious grounds and those who bad brought children with them found presents and balloons to be bought from a gaily decorated Christmas tree. Members of the Young Contingent of the Victoria League had given sufficient home-made sweets to stock a large stall which proved another attraction for the younger visitors. Members and friends did some pre-Chrisitmas shopping at a neighbouring stall which was laden with home-made cakes of all descriptions, sides of meat which had been sent from the country, jars of hand lotion, lavender bags and other small articles suitable for gifts. Mrs Neill received the guests wearing a dress and jacket ensemble of patterned silk and a pale blue hat of swathed tulle. The party was the final pari of the jubilee celebrations of the Victoria League. Among those invited were the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) and Mrs Manning; Mrs R. McCourt; three Vietnamese engineering students, Messrs H. C. Bui, Nhat Pham and Thanh Buu; Mr and Mrs H. Cardeng; Dr. and Mrs P. J. Lawrence; Dr. and Mrs S. L. Symonds; Dr. J. Soons; Mr and Mrs Keith Newson: Mr Gordon Williams; Sir Robert and Lady Clark Hall; Mrs M. Bethell; Miss A. Candy; Dr. and Mrs F. Scott: Mrs G. Gould: Mtss B. Gould; Miss Joy McDowell; Mr and Mrs R. J. G. Collins; Mr and Mrs P. D. Hall; Mr and Mrs E. Millton: Mr and Mrs F. Tomlinson; Cantain and Mrs G. Henessey. The afternoon tea was made by members of the hospitality committee.
