Heathcliff Dies During Race
Heathcliff collapsed and died near the three furlongs in the L. Derrett Hack Handicap at Hororata on Saturday. B. S. Finlayson pulled Heathcliff up and dismounted and the horse was dead before the club’s veterinary surgeon reached him. It is believed that the horse collapsed either from internal bleeding or heart failure. Heathcliff was having his second start for the day. He ran third to Pacisana and Golden Rhapsody in the high-weight. Heathcliff was an eight-year-old gelding by Golden Air from Lili Pons, owned and trained at Sefton by Mr H. Lang.
