Fugitives From Trial Now In Spain

MADRID, December 10. Jean-Marie Demarquet, one of the three fugitives from the “Algiers plot” trial in Paris who crossed into Spain and asked for asylum yesterday, said early today that the request had been granted. Demarquet told Reuter: “We are now in a hotel in Barcelona and we are quite free. We have what might perhaps be called police protection. We • intend to leave tomorrow for Madrid.” The three men, who surrendered to the Spanish Civil Guard at Cantallops near the French border yesterday, are expected to be kept under close surveillance by Spanish police. Their request for asylum is believed to have been approved at a Cabinet meeting which did not end until early today. With Demarquet, a former French deputy.

are Jean Jacques Susini, the former Algiers student leader, and Marcel Ronda, a territorial army captain. They and two others—Pierre Lagaillarde and Fernand Feral—disappeared from Paris last weekend while on provisional liberty during their trial in connexion with the Algiers uprising last January. Feral has since surrendered to French police and Lagaillarde is said to be in Madrid.
