CRIPPLED CHILDREN
Plans For Display At Airport
“Keeping the crippled child mobile” will be the theme of a display at the collecting point at the foot of the Christmas tree at the Christchurch Airport, this year. This was announced at the recent meeting of the general committee of the Canterbury and West Coast branch of the Crippled Children Society. The display will include models of the equipment the society lends children to enable them to move about. A letter was received from a 19-y ear-old youth who suffers from a severe spinal injury. He thanked the society for the loan of a specially-made wheel chair: “With the use of the detachable sides I can slide on to my bed and into most types of cars, so I am definitely not stuck in the house. There are countless other little things that I can do in this type of chair which help me to overcome the feeling of helplessness. Once again I most sincerely thank the committee for the chair which has made such a difference to my state of mind and way of living.” . Members were interested to hear of various functions which the children had been invited to attend. The secretary mentioned a firm of electrical contractors who. instead of giving presents to their customers, gave the cost of those presents, with the support of the customers, to the society as a special donation.
