Mobile Crane Slides Into Harbour
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 9.
The driver of a five-ton mobile crane had an unexpected swim at Auckland today. The crane had just launched a yacht at Okahu Bay when it began to move slowly down the concrete slip towards the water. The brakes were on but the tyres would not grip because of the slime.
The driver, Mr Edward Knipe, dived into the water and swam ashore, and the crane continued its plunge. It came to rest with the top of the cab just showing above the water.
