TAXI LICENCES REVOKED

Appeal Authority Issues Others

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. December 9

Eight of 38 new taxi licences granted by the Auckland Metropolitan Licensing Authority recently were revoked by the Transport Appeal Authority (Judge K. G. Archer) today.

At the same time, Judge Archer granted 24 new licences to persons who appealed against the decision of the Metropolitan Authority to restrict the issue of new licences to 38 and to the granting of them to certain individuals.

Judge Archer's decision means that 53 new licences will operate in the Auckland metropolitan area. One of the successful 38 applicants before 'the Metropolitan Authority subsequently withdrew.

There will now be 534 taxis in Auckland.
