TURKEYS ARE POPULAR
In Demand For Christmas
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Dec. 7.
Turkeys, capons, ducks, and game birds are in abundance all over Britain this year. The supply of turkeys is expected to be about 15 per cent, up on last year and though prices are a little lower, producers expect to take a good 10 per cent, more money for their birds.
Broiler and chicken farms have sold over 30 per cent, more birds this year than last and are preparing to supply 6 million for the Christmas market. Game birds and ducks have been in record supply and demand. - The “Financial Times,” commenting on the growing popularity of birds of all kinds, says the growth of the turkey industry in Britain is second only to that of the chicken industry. Rising living standards have led to a rising demand which, in turn, has stimulated more efficient production and marketing. About one British home in three will have a Christmas ' turkey this year, about double the number of six or seven years ago.,
