CHRISTMAS PARTIES
Cerebral Palsied.— A large Christmas crib softly illuminated with coloured lights was the centre-piece of decorations for the Christmas party of the Cerebral Palsied Welfare Association, held in St. Andrew’s Hall. The large attendance included many children. Games, items, and carols formed the programme.
Hospital Lady Visitors.—A sale of work held by the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association in Christchurch raised £175. This was announced at a recent meeting where members stood in silence as a tribute to the late. Mrs E. G. Hogg. Mrs Hogg had been president of the association for many years and was an honorary life member. The association gratefully acknowledges books and magazines from Mesdames Alan Menzies, H. Blackwell. P. E* Hudson, G. Barnett. Hunt, E. Lowcay, C. A. Rattray, E. A. Cleland. Misses E. L. and A. V. Sapsford, A. Ladd, Mr A. S. Nicholls and Brigadier A. H. Andrews. At the annual meeting of the association. Mrs Percy WynnWilliams was elected an honorary life member in recognition of her 25 years as a member of the committee.
Selwyn Street Kindergarten.— The local committee of the Selwyri Street Kindergarten held its Christmas party recently at the kindergarten. There were more than 74 parents present and a presentation was made to Mrs L. Harding (vice-president) for her 37 years’ service to the kindergarden. She was handed a bouquet of flowers and a gift by the president (Mrs N.- McGarva). Mr R. Betteridge provided the musical entertainment for the evening. Kaiapoi Red Cross.— More than 90 guests attended the recent Christmas party given by members of the Kaiapoi Sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. They were welcomed by the president (Miss P. Pearce). A Christmas tree and artistic floral decorations lent a festive air to the room. The president of the North Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society (Mrs R. I. Brake) was guest speaker. After her talk she was presented with a sheaf of. flowers. Miss Pearce and Mrs C. Palmer were presented with floral sprays by Miss S. E. Evans. Mesdames E. Baker and A. Pearce sang accompanied by Mrs M. Richards and Mrs W. O’Connor gave humorous recitations.
