RACING Insignus Picked To Win At Dargaville
(Now Zgaiang Pros. A*toctalto»i AUCKLAND, December 8. There is enough pace and staying ability in the field to make a good race of the Cockerton Handicap at Dargaville tomorrow. One of the form candidates is Insignus and there is every likelihood that he will give a very solid account of himself.
An eight-year-old gelding from Pio Pio, where he is trained by his owner, Mr E. Pipe, Insignus ha. had regular racing lately in a variety of events. He has become hard and fit. Insignus is one of the runners at the middle of the handicap, having 8-0, which is 101 b. more than the bottom-weight and 141 b less than the top, which will be carried by Baron Boissier.
Rapa rider, W. A- Smith, has been engaged for Beau Way, which is bound to be well backed on that account.
The Cockerton Handicap will be the first leg of the double on the opening day of the Northern Wairoa Racing Club’s annual meeting, run over a mile and a quarter. In the second leg, the Waihue Hack Handicap. Banderole will very likely be the hardest to beat. There has been a fair amount of rain in the last day or two and as further showers are forecast the ground will most likely be soft. Second division: Valiant Roman, Steel Princess. 3.45 p.m.—Waihue Hack Handicap: Banderole, Harcourt. Alibhai. 4.30 p.m.—Wells Hack Handicap: Reappearance, Pesoador, Summer Eve.
