SHOW GROUND BUILDING
Construction Advanced
Although the Canterbury Court at the Addington Show Grounds will not be officially opened until May, good progress is being made in construction. Glaziers will soon begin in fixing of the long glass panels from ceiling height and the panels in the roof. Outwardly, the building will then appear to be finished. The next big construction work will be the laying of the 27.000 square feet of concrete floor. Administrative offices and conveniences have also to be erected inside the court at the Twigger street end. Patrons of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Royal Show first saw the unusual Kuilding when it was used for cattle and goat sections. Much work has been done since; and more is contemplated for the future. Projected plans are for a mezzanine floor at the Twigger street end to carry a cafe, kitchen and social rooms. Plans for an enclosed drive from the gateway facing Lincoln road to the Canterbury Court have been prepared and the probability is that the surrounds of the court will be landscaped. A scheme for lighting the court »s being prepared, with emergency power from a 15 k.w. dieseldriven generator formerly used at the Industries Fair building in Ferry road by the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. The first big event for which the court will be used is the national motor show being organised for May by the Manufacturers’ Association. Additional space will be available in the nearby concrete building in which cattle are shown at A. and P. shows.
