TROTTING Faru Selected To Win Waimate Cup
The Invercargill pacer, Faru, could win his second race for the season in the Waimate Cup, the first leg of the double at the Waimate Trotting Club’s annual meeting tomorrow.
Faru won under saddle conditions at For bury Park in October and at his most recent start he was beaten by a neck over two miles by the highlyregarded Cardigan Bay at Wyndham on November 5. Faru looks a likely type of pacer and he should master the two miles too solidly for most of his rivals.
Mary Mavis, another four-year-old, is a likely improver. She was having her first start for some months when she finished second to Peat Moss at New Brighton last week. This field does not look to be a particularly strong one and it will be surprising if she fails to show up.
Boy Blue, which is trained at Waimate by E. I. Girdler, would have to show very little improvement on his second to the speedy Urrall in the Kaikoura Cup on November 3. to be the hardest to beat. The Johnny Globe gelding has shown considerable ability and he looks likely'to win several races in the next few months. Oreti found the class in the New Zealand Metropolitan Challenge Stakes at Addington a little rich, but he should be capable of a bold showing in this event. He has had a win and a third in his other appearances this season. Tryst, fifth in the .Kaikoura Cup, Clackston. third at New Brighton, Master Alan and Jockles are others expected to race prominently. The Wiliam Campbell Handicap, a race for maiden pacers, has been selected as the second leg of the double. Top Notch, Steads and Pacework form a likely trio, but they can expect solid opposition from Rolex, False Weave and Sandyfield. Weather -prospects for tomorrow are fair and the track should be in good order after recent rain.
