(Rec. 10 p.m.) x MOSCOW, December 8. Mr Khrushchev lost a battle today—against his doctors. The tussle started when he went down with influenza two days ago. Today he was to propose a toast of friendship between China and Russia at a Kremlin reception.

After a round of drinks at the reception, the deputy VicePremier, Mr Anastas Mikoyan, went to the microphone and announced: “You probably wonder why a person who is so fond of making toasts is absent But Comrade Khrushchev has slight trouble with the flu.
