REQUIREMENTS CHANGED

Subjects For Teachers’ B Certificates (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 7. A change in the requirements for teachers' B certificates was announced by the Director of Education (Mr A. E. Campbell) at a graduation ceremony of Taranaki teachers at New Plymouth tonight. Three university degree subjects would still be set, he said, and up to three professional subjects could now be set by the Education Department. “They will not be soft options, but they will be closely related to the problems of the teacher in the classroom,” said Mr Campbell. At present the qualifications for the B certificate are either six units of an arts degree or five units of a science degree. Mr Campbell said the new scheme would come into operation next year, when further details would be announced.
