ARTS FESTIVAL PLANNED
Junior Council Undertaking
The Christchurch Junior City Council will promote an arts festival to be held in Christchurch from July 1 to 15 next year. This was decided at a faceting of the council last evening on a motion by Mr G. H. Reddell “Christchurch residents have never lacked in their appreciation of the arts,” he said. “We have two of New Zealand’s best choral societies; we have good quality ballet and drama groups. I feel a festival would give these groups an opportunity to present their work to the citizens.”. Ideas he put forward were: lunch-hour concerts, both choral and instrumental; an art exhibition; drama productions; ballet and jazz concerts; support of a suitable film; and a book week with the theme “reading for the whole family.”
