FILM ON LIFE OF BADEN-POWELL
Sidney Box To Write Screenplay (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Dec. 5. The Oscar-winning screenplay writer, Sidney Box, himself a scout, has been engaged to write’ the screenplay for a film about the life of the former Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell. Mr Box will leave for California shortly to begin work on the film which was planned by Cecil B. de Mille a few months before his death two years ago. Henry Wilcoxon, a producer and an associate of Mr de Mille. said the draft treatment had been completed and had been seen by members of the BadenPowell family. It had involved reading more than 60 books by and about Baden-Powell, as well as his many personal diaries and thousands of letters. “Mr Box, like myself, is a former scout and has been appointed to the task because we feel it is essential that an Englishman should prepare the shooting script of this great man’s story,” he said.
