FOOD HYGIENE BREACHES

Milk Left In Shop Doorways

An early Friday morning check carried out recently had revealed 30 to 35 breaches of the Food Hygiene Regulations, the supervising officer (Mr A. P. Millthorpe) told members of the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board. However, no legal action was contemplated against the offenders. he said. Mr Millthorpe said some vendors were in the habit of leaving milk in shop doorways and right-of-ways, which was contrary to the regulations. The representative of the Canterbury Milk Vendors’ Association on the board (Mr P. A. Caithness) said that in many cases, the shops were locked. He considered it would slow down deliveries if the vendors had to return to the shops. Asked if the shop-keepers were liable under the regulations, Mr Millthorpe said they were not. “It is entirely up to them to make suitable delivery arrangements with the vendors,” he added. Where any further breaches of the regulations were found, they would be placed before the board for consideration for legal action, he said. Mr Millthorpe told Mr Caithness that he would write to the vendors’ association about the matter.
