Canterbury Centre Titles The Canterbury centre of the New i Zealand Marching Association held . its championships at Williamson Park on Saturday. The strong north- • easterly made conditions difficult at times There was a poor attendance. The 30 teams taking part were divided, into three sections—seniors, , juniors and midgets. Each section > was divided into novice and open classes. i In the open class the senior title ; went to Phillips HI-Z, the junior to , Royal Kilties and the midget to ; Gordonettes. In the novice class i there were more teams than tn the I open class. Metropolitan won the senior, Guildex the junior and Modernage the midget. i If the Rochdale senior team had been more careful in the march plan it could take taken the senior title. It was beaten by two points by ■ Phillips HI-Z. The Rochdale leader. L. Newton, did well to beat the Phillips. leader. J. Henderson, by 3 points. Rochdale’s display appealed to the judges. It won this section to give it an aggregate win by 14 points Royal Kilties had little opposition in the junior section and won the march plan by 119 points. Their display increased their lead to win the aggregate by 128 points. Royal Kilties’ leader, L. Dench, was outstanding. In the midget section there was a great tussle between Gordonettes and Blue Star Taxis. Gordonettes won. R. Cane, the leader of Blue Star Taxis, gave her team a good start when she finished eight points ahead of C. Scott, leader of Gordonettes. Mistakes tn the march plan lost this lead and a further six points to let Gordonettes take the championship by six points. Gordonettes gave a deightful display, which increased their lead to give them the aggregate by 27 points. Results were:— Senior Open.—Champion team, Phillips HI-Z; champion leader. L. Newton (Rochdale); display, Rochdale; aggregate. Rochdale. Senior Novice.—Champion team. Metropolitan; champion leader. C. Chapman (Caledonian Kilties); display, Marriotts; aggregate. Metropolitan. Junior Open.—Champion team. Royal Kilties; champion leader. L. Dench (Royal Kilties); display, Royal Kilties: aggregate. Royal Kilties. Junior Novice.—Champion team. Guildex; champion leader. I. McDonald (Marathon); display. Guildex; aggregate. Guildex. Midget Open.—Champion team. Gordonettes; champion leader, R. Cane (Blue Star Taxis); display, Gordonettes; aggregate. Gordonettes. Midget Novice.—Champion team. Modemage; champion leader. C. Brown (Modernage); display. Modernage; aggregate. Modemage. Bishop Of Solomons In Auckland (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 20. The Roman Catholic Bishop of the Solomon Islands (the Most Rev. Dr. E. W. Stuyvenberg) is visiting Auckland to meet benefactors of the mission. He has spent 24 years in the South Solomons. Bishop Stuyvenberg said the natives, numbering about 150.000 in his area, were backward. Lack of variety of diet had affected their health. The World Health Organisation was organising campaigns in the area.
