Baillie Wins Race Before Wedding

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 20. The national cross-country champion, W. Baillie, won the Mount Wellington “king of the mountain’’ trophy on Saturday in record time a brief hour or two before his wedding. Baillie was matched against the Olympic champions, M. G. Halberg and P. G. Snell, and the Olympic marathon third place getter, B. Magee, but he covered the rough

and tough course in 44.8 sec faster than last year’s winner. M. May. Baillie beat the former national 10-mile champion. A. McKnight, formerly of Wellington, and G. Parker, home in a field of more than 30. Parker won the sealed handicap from Alan Findlay and Baillie, with McKnight fourth. Magee was fourth in the open event, eight seconds faster than Halberg, and 17 seconds ahead of Snell.
