TWO MEN WIN £l0,000
Both Work For Same Firm
The manager of a Christchurch cartage firm, Mr D. J. Cunningham, and one of the firm’s drivers, Mr L. Shirley, won the £lO,OOO first prize in a lottery recently drawn in Melbourne. They have been taking tickets in the lottery for three years, and this is their first success. The first indication the two men had of their win was when a cablegram from Melbourne in “The Press” on Friday said that the L. and D. syndicate, of Shirley, had drawn first prize. At that time they did not know for certain that it was their ticket that had won, because it had not been collected from the agent. Their win was confirmed when a bank manager, who has been associated with five lottery winners, got in touch with Mr Shirley. Neither of the two men has any ambitious plans, but Mr Shirley and his wife intend to take their first holiday for five years. Mr Cunningham is going to travel with the Australian Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association's cricket team which is coming to New Zealand to play matches at Christmas. Mr Cunningham is a married man with three sons, aged one, 12. and 17.
