VOTING FRAUDS IN U.S. POLL ALLEGED
F. 8,1. To Investigate Complaints (A’.Z. Press Association— Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, November 20. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been ordered by the Justice Department to investigate a number of complaints of alleged voting frauds in the Presidential election, United Press International reported today. Neither department lawyers working on voting fraud complaints nor the F. 8.1. would comment on the cases of alleged irregularities under investigation.
Informed sources quoted by United Press International said that the department had received a “tremendous” volume of mail urging investigation of improper election activities, and that a number of F. 8.1. inquiries already were under way. On Friday, the Republican National Committee announced that it was sending representatives into eight States to take a “close hard look” at the election results. The inquiry would be made in Illinois, Texas, Missouri, , New Mexico. Nevada. South Carolina New Jersey and Pennsylvania—all carried narrowly by the President-elect. Mr John Kennedy. The latest tabulation of votes is:
Mr Kennedy, 34.020.063. or 50.15 per cent. Mr Richard Nixon, 33.819.535, or 49.85 per cent. Others. 448.412. Mr Nixon virtually clinched Alaska’s three electoral votes yesterday as counting of absentee ballots continued and gave him a 953 majority over Mr Kennedy. More than half of the State’s 5000 absentee ballots now have been counted, and Mr NUon picked up another 295 votes yesterday. Mr Nixon flew to Nassau, Bahamas, from Miami. Florida, yesterday, to spend two or three days in the resort city. He was accompanied by the United States Attorney-General. Mr William Rogers, a Miami friend, and a secret service agent.
