U.S. AID TO LAOS

WASHINGTON, November 19. The United States has expressed fears that Communist influence in Laos would be increased if the country’s neutralist Government accepted aid from Communist Chirva and neighbouring North Vietnam.

The State Department said that it viewed with concern Cabinet recommendations to this effect made to the Government of the Prime Minister (Prince Souvanna Phouma). "We view with concern these developments in Vientiane because we fear that if such recommendations are actually put into effect, Communist influence in the internal affairs of Laos would be increased,’’ the department said. The department spokesman. Mr Lincoln White, declined to comment when asked whether United States foreign aid to Laos would be affected if the Souvanna Government accepted Communist assistance and also brought elements of the pro-Communist Pathet Lao into the administration.
