PEOPLE IN THE PLAY
The Hutt Valley Cricket Association’s coach for this season will be Mr G. J. Robertson, a former Otago Plunket Shield representative player. After moving to Wellington Mr Robertson played senior cricket for several seasons for Petone, where he captained the team and also <ed the Hutt Valley Hawke Cup side. He will coach schoolboys and colts as well as representative players. \ * The new cub captain of the Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club, Geoffrey Le Cren,
is playing a leading part in bringing the old- ; est swimming club in Christchurch back into the limelight of ! competitive! swimming. A 1 leading sprint! swimmer and a' New Zealand i junior surf; champion, Le
Cren is coaching several young swimmers for his club, as well as encouraging former members to return to active competition. ★ The former Canterbury 880 yards champion, D. Beauchamp, ran a good half-mile at the Wellington inter-club athletic meeting on Saturday in blustery conditions. Beauchamp was apposed by a difficult field, but he was far too rtrong for his major opponents, L. C. Leikis ind D. J. Hawkes—better known as a quarter-mile hurdler—and won fairly comfortably in a fraction over two ninutes.

Mellish Cup holder (for interclub P Class competition) which he won at Dunedin. He won the Cornwell Cup, in Takapunas, at Port Chalmers, and crewed for his brother Graham Mander in a Leander win on Lyttelton harbour. David Mander is 26 and is an office equipment technician.
