FENCER GETS SHOCK

Sweat Causes Short Circuit

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 21.

The Olympic fencer, B. Pickworth, of ■ Auckland, suffered a slight shock when his metallic vest became damp through perspiration in a bout during the team events at the New Zealand amateur fencing tournament today. Pickworth won all his bouts in the men’s foils. He got the shock during his bout with A. A. T. Ellis (Wellington), who touched Pickworth’s mask with his foil. The dampness cause a short circuit. All foil bouts this year are being judged electrically. Results of the team’s foil bouts were:—

Men.—Auckland beat Canterbury, 15 bouts to 1; Wellington beat Canterbury, 15 bouts to 1; Auckland beat Wellington, 9-5.

Women.—Auckland beat Wellington, 9-7; Wellington beat Canterbury, 12-4; Auckland beat Canterbury, 9-7. Individual foil bouts will be held tomorrow.
