Fendalton Traffic Lights

Sir, — I see in this morning’s issue of “The Press” that Mr A. R. Blank’s wise move for the installation of traffic lights at the Memorial avenue - FendaltonClyde roads intersection was defeated by less enlightened councillors. How many of those who voted against the resolution use the pedestrian crossing there frequently or have children who do so? I have had many narrow escapes from cars which, after the clear run down Memorial avenue, fail to reduce speed sufficienlty before entering the shopping area. That crossing is used daily by scores of school children. It is little better than a death-trap. The sooner lights are installed, the better. Why wait for a life to be lost before deciding that £2500 is, after all, not too much to spend?—Yours, etc., LUX FIAT. October 21, 1960.
